Accessibility Statement
What the site has been built to, what has been tested, and how to tell us about a problem.
This statement is about this website, castleskylightscolchester.co.uk, rather than about the installation work. It sets out the standard the site has been built to, what has been done to meet it, what has and has not been tested, and how to tell us about a problem you run into.
Conformance

This site is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA. “Partially conformant” is the standard wording for a site built and tested against the standard but not yet audited by an independent third party. Every template was checked during the build, both automatically and by hand, and no outstanding level A or AA failure is known at the date below. The date of the last review is 26 August 2026.
What has been done

- Text and background colours are chosen to meet the WCAG 2.1 AA contrast guidance, checked as computed values rather than as swatches.
- Every meaningful image carries descriptive alternative text.
- Headings follow a logical order so the structure of a page makes sense read aloud or navigated by keyboard.
- The site can be navigated by keyboard, there is a skip to content link, and focus is shown clearly.
- Menus and controls are labelled for assistive technology, and a reduced motion preference turns animation off.
- The layout adapts to phones, tablets and desktops, and text can be enlarged to 200 per cent without breaking the page.
Where we know we can do better

Testing with screen readers has so far been limited to development checks rather than a full assistive technology audit. Checks during the build covered keyboard only navigation, visible focus, heading order, form labelling, colour contrast in both static and computed form, and layout at 200 per cent text size.
The enquiry form is supplied by an external system and embedded in the page. Its accessibility is governed by that supplier rather than by this site. Where such an embed cannot be used, the same enquiry can be made by phone or email, and those routes are given on every page.
An independent audit against the full WCAG 2.1 AA criteria, including testing with assistive technology, has not been carried out at the time of writing. Should one be commissioned, the date, the organisation that carried it out and the method used will be recorded here and this section rewritten with the findings.
Getting content another way

If you need information from this site in another format, ask by email and say which format suits you. Content here is written as ordinary web pages, so it can generally be supplied as plain text or in a larger print size on request. We aim to respond to such a request within three working days.
Telling us about a problem

If you come across anything difficult to use with assistive technology, or that does not work as it should, let us know so we can fix it. It helps to tell us the page you were on, what went wrong, and which device or assistive technology you were using.
We aim to give an initial response within three working days. Where something can be corrected quickly, it is corrected and you are told when the change is live. Where it needs a change to a template or to a third party component and will take longer, you are given the reason, an indication of timing, and where possible another way to get at the information in the meantime.
Preparation of this statement

This statement was prepared during the build of the site on 26 August 2026 and last reviewed on 26 August 2026. It is reviewed whenever the site changes materially and at least once a year.
How we have built this site

We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 level AA, and the site has been built to that standard rather than retrofitted toward it.
In practice that means text and background colours are checked for contrast, every page has one main heading and a heading structure that follows in order, images that carry meaning have alternative text and decorative ones are marked so screen readers skip them, form fields have real labels rather than placeholder text standing in for them, and every interactive element can be reached and operated with a keyboard alone with a visible focus indicator.
There is a skip to content link at the top of every page, the site works at 200 percent zoom without loss of content, and it reflows to a single column on a narrow screen without horizontal scrolling.
Motion
Animation on this site is limited to short entrance effects. Where your device or browser is set to reduce motion, those are disabled automatically and the content appears without them. Nothing on the site flashes, moves continuously or plays automatically.
Known limitations
Content embedded from other providers, such as a map, is outside our control and may not meet the same standard. Where an embed is essential we provide the same information as text elsewhere on the page.
Some technical documents supplied by manufacturers are PDFs produced by third parties and may not be fully tagged for screen readers. Ask us and we will supply the relevant information in another format.
Telling us about a problem
If you find a page you cannot use, tell us. Say which page, what you were trying to do, and what browser or assistive technology you were using, and we will fix it and confirm when it is done. We treat accessibility faults as faults rather than as suggestions.
If you would rather not use the website at all, call or send a message and we will deal with your enquiry that way. Nothing about our service requires you to use this site.
