Contact
Tell us about the roof and we will come and look at it.
The quickest route to a real answer is the form, because it asks the questions we would ask anyway. Phone and WhatsApp both reach us directly.
We are a service area business, so there is no public office to call at. Everything happens at your property or by email.
What to include

- Your postcode.
- Roof type, or a photograph if you are not sure.
- What you are trying to achieve.
- Whether anything is leaking now, which changes the order we do things in.
If you are replacing an existing roof window, a photograph of the data plate on the unit will usually get you a price without anyone visiting.
The fastest way to get a useful answer

Send a photograph. It saves more time than anything else you can do.
Replacing an existing roof window: photograph the data plate. Every unit carries one identifying model and size, usually on the top edge of the sash or on the frame beside the hinge once the window is opened. On a centre pivot window, rotating the sash brings it into view. Photograph it rather than typing it out, because the characters are small, several are easily confused, and a mistyped code buys the wrong window.
Anything else: a photograph of the roof from outside, and one of the room from inside. Between the two we can usually tell you what is possible, what it is likely to cost, and whether it needs permission, without anyone visiting.
A leak or a fault: photograph where the water is appearing and, if you can do it safely, the outside of the unit. Condensation and a genuine leak look identical from inside and have completely different fixes, so the picture genuinely changes the answer.
What we will tell you without charging
Whether the job is viable, an indicative price range, whether you are likely to need planning permission or listed building consent, whether the work is notifiable under Building Regulations, and whether a repair would be better value than a replacement. None of that needs an appointment and none of it costs anything.
What we cannot do from a photograph is give you a fixed price. That needs a survey, and on a flat roof it needs somebody to see the kerb, because that is where the cost is.
Surveys
Free, at a time that suits you, and it takes half an hour to an hour depending on how many openings are involved. We measure, check the structure and the covering, look at access, and go through the options with you on the spot.
The written quotation follows by email, itemised, naming the product and the flashing kit rather than describing a rooflight in general terms. It is a fixed price and it does not move unless the job changes or something we warned you about is found.
When you can expect to hear back
Enquiries are answered the same working day wherever possible. Surveys are usually offered within a few days. Where a job is urgent because water is coming in, say so, and we will treat it as urgent rather than putting you in the queue.
Existing customers
If we fitted it and something is wrong with it, call rather than filling in a form, and mention when the work was done. Our guarantee covers the workmanship for ten years, and where a unit has failed under a manufacturer’s warranty we handle that claim ourselves rather than leaving you to argue with a manufacturer about a product we chose.
What we do not do
General roofing, extensions, windows in walls, or emergency callouts through the night. We are a rooflight and skylight specialist and we would rather point you at somebody appropriate than take work outside what we do well. Ask, and we will usually know who to suggest.
Where we work from
We are based in Colchester and cover north and central Essex, from the town out through the surrounding villages, along the Colne and Blackwater estuaries, and into the market towns to the west and south. We also work across the Suffolk border into the Stour valley towns.
Distance does not appear as a line on the quotation. What it affects is how we plan the day, so for anything at the further edge of that area we schedule full days rather than short visits, and larger jobs or several items in one visit suit that better than a single small one.
Office hours
We answer enquiries through the working week and take calls during normal working hours. Messages left outside those hours are picked up the next working morning.
Surveys are arranged at a time that suits you, including early evening where that is easier, because most people would rather not take a day off work to have a roof looked at.
What happens after you get in touch
An acknowledgement the same working day wherever possible, with any questions we need answered to give you a useful reply. An indicative range by email once we have enough to work with. Then, if you want to proceed, a survey and a fixed written itemised quotation.
You will get one polite check that the quotation arrived. If you want to think about it for six months, that is fine and we will not chase you.

Our coverage area
Based in Colchester, covering Lexden, Mile End, Greenstead, Prettygate, the Colne Valley and across Essex.
Our coverage area
Colchester and roughly thirty miles by road around it. If you are just outside the circle, ask anyway.
Thirty miles is a guide, not a boundary. Access, the covering and the size of the job matter more than the mileage.
